Electrical Safety First
at InstallerSHOW
The Client
Electrical Safety First (ESF) is a campaigning charity working to reduce deaths and injuries caused by electricity in UK homes. It works closely with the Government, the electrical industry, manufacturers, retailers and consumer safety organisations across the country to improve regulation and standards.
ESF runs media and digital campaigns that give consumers practical advice and guidance to help them stay safe at home. It also carries out research and publishes in-depth reports on key electrical safety issues, giving policymakers and decision makers the evidence they need to bring about change.
The Project
Our Client Services Director, Chris, led this project.
We’ve worked with ESF before. For this project, we were tasked with creating a bespoke, interactive exhibition stand to help ESF raise awareness of its work among installers and electrical professionals at this year’s InstallerSHOW, held at the NEC in Birmingham.
InstallerSHOW is the UK’s leading event for heat, water, air, energy and building professionals. It brings together tens of thousands of installers, contractors and tradespeople across the electrical, plumbing, heating and construction sectors, alongside hundreds of exhibitors showcasing the latest products, innovations and industry best practice.
ESF was there to champion home electrical safety among the many people fitting and maintaining the systems, and to make the case for safer, smarter homes.
The Solution
We designed a stand shaped like a house, complete with an exterior, an interior, a loft space and an exposed timber roof structure. The look was kept clean, crisp and white throughout, so the electrical hazards dotted around it would stand out.
Visitors could spot the kind of dangers you’d find in a typical older home, including an old-fashioned light fitting, a dated consumer unit, trailing wires, an insecure solar panel and inverter, and an exposed DNO cut-out unit. Together, they turned the stand into an interactive, educational experience about the hidden electrical hazards lurking in people’s homes.
Built with reuse in mind, the stand will also appear at Grand Designs Expo, the 2026 Labour Party Conference and further shows throughout 2027.
The Impact
The stand became one of the most memorable spaces on the show floor, drawing steady footfall from installers keen to test their hazard-spotting skills. Many were surprised by how easily dangers can hide in plain sight, sparking conversations about the work they carry out every day.
Visitors scanned QR codes to download free best practice guides, and were encouraged to follow ESF’s social channels for ongoing safety updates, extending the stand’s reach well beyond the show itself.
The experience reinforced ESF’s reputation as an approachable, practical voice within the trade, helping installers see themselves as part of the solution to home electrical safety.
Testimonial
“Working with Exhibit Interactive on this stand was another great experience from start to finish. We wanted something that would stop people in their tracks and get installers thinking differently about the homes they work in every day, and Chris and the team delivered that.
“What impressed us most was how well the concept translates across different audiences. It works just as well with tradespeople on the tools as it does with politicians and members of the public, which says a lot about the strength of the design.
“We’ve had people from neighbouring stands stopping by to ask who built it for us, which speaks volumes. ei understood our mission and turned it into something people wanted to engage with, not walk past.”
