The Solar Centre at GLEE

The Client

The Solar Centre is a leading UK business specialising in high-quality solar lights.

With a history dating back to 2005, it’s gained recognition and awards for its innovative designs and lighting solutions.

The Solar Centre’s commitment to sustainability is evident through its mission to create eco-conscious lighting solutions that last longer than conventional options. Its in-house team ensures reliability, simplicity and thoughtful design, making the Solar Centre a trusted provider of lighting for a brighter, more sustainable future.

The Project

The Solar Centre tasked us with creating a sustainable cardboard exhibition stand so it could take its message and products to delegates at this year’s Garden, Leisure and Equipment Exhibition (GLEE) at Birmingham’s NEC.

GLEE is a well-established international festival for the garden, leisure and pet industries. Each year, it presents the most exciting brands, product innovations and retail insights.

The event brings together the key players in each sector under one roof and is a central hub for face-to-face trading, networking and sharing new ideas. Thousands of visitors attend the annual three-day gathering to discover the latest products and solutions, and hear from the most inspirational speakers.

The Solution

With sustainability at the forefront of the Solar Centre’s brand, it wanted a unique exhibition space to showcase its latest products and environmental credentials. It previously had a painted MDF stand, but was looking for a more sustainable alternative. It saw our cardboard stand offering online and enquired via our website.

We created a simple back wall for the stand, along with a darkroom structure made from recyclable cardboard blocks. The darkroom interior allowed the client’s on-stand team to give live, interactive demonstrations of its lighting products.

The back wall had an integrated LED playing brand video, and products were fitted to the darkroom’s exterior using plasterboard fixings. We also created cardboard display plinths and placed them around the stand’s perimeter.

Everything was custom-branded in the Solar Centre’s distinctive green and white colour scheme.  We took care of all the power supplies and logistics, using 100% recycled materials throughout to minimise waste and ensure an easy installation.

The Impact

The stand made a significant impact on visitors at the event, with many queueing up to enter the darkroom over the three days. The client even commented: “I was happy with the stand it looked good.”

Its unique design and construction methods drew attention and curiosity from attendees, with many approaching the Solar Centre’s team throughout the event, asking about its design and construction.

The stand’s visual impact was undeniable as it stood out amidst other more traditional exhibition stands at the event. Its innovative approach and modern aesthetic captivated visitors, leaving a lasting impression.

It showcased the Solar Centre’s commitment to sustainability and demonstrated its ability to think outside the box and create a visually striking display that resonated with the audience.
